Commemorating 65th Martyrs' Day of Myanmar (formerly Burma)

I just want to share one item from my small collection which can reflect your spirit and feeling to 65th Martyrs' Day falling on 19th July 2012.  Martyrs' Day is a Burmese national holiday observed on 19 July to commemorate Gen. Aung San and six other leaders of the pre-independence interim government—Thakin Mya, U Ba Cho, U Razak, U Ba Win, Mahn Ba Khine and Sao San Tun (Sawbwa of Mongpawn) — all of whom were assassinated on that day in 1947. It is customary for high-ranking government officials to visit the Martyrs' Mausoleum in Yangon in the morning of that day to pay respects.[wikipedia]. One year later, in 1948, the Post of Union of Burma (now Republic of Myanmar) had issue a set of stamps commemorating the 1st anniversary of the assassination of leaders in the fight for independence.  This set of stamp contains 12 different color stamps with various denomination (face values) designed with Martyrs' memorial.

The cachet of this FDC is featuring the memorial to our leaders.  You can see their photo and name which can be never forget.   You can study the flag design of that time as well.

Though our Beloved Bogyoke and leaders were assassinated since 65 years ago, as mentioned in the cachet, they will live in our heart eternally.

Bogyoke (General) Aung San (Burmese: ဗိုလ္ခ်ဳပ္ၾကီးေအာင္ဆန္း ; MLCTS: buil hkyup rki aung hcan:, pronounced: [bòdʑoʊʔ ʧí àʊɴ sʰáɴ]); 13 February 1915 – 19 July 1947) was a Burmese revolutionary, nationalist, and founder of the modern Burmese army (Tatmadaw), and considered to be the Father of (modern-day) Burma.
He was a founder of the Communist Party of Burma and was instrumental in bringing about Burma's independence from British colonial rule in Burma, but was assassinated six months before independence. He is recognized as the leading architect of independence, and the founder of the Union of Burma. Affectionately known as "Bogyoke" (General), Aung San is still widely admired by the Burmese people, and his name is still invoked in Burmese politics to this day.  Aung San had a daughter, Aung San Suu Kyi, who is a Burmese politician and the recipient of a Nobel Peace Prize.

General San Yu (Burmese: စန်းယု, pronounced: [sáɴ jṵ]; 3 March 1918 – 30 January 1996) was the Commander in Chief of the Tatmadaw and President of Socialist Republic of the Union of Burma from 9 November 1981 to 27 July 1988. San Yu studied medicine in Rangoon when World War II broke out and joined the army to serve as a junior officer while Burma was under Japanese occupation.

U Thant - LBJ White House menu

This original menu is from the formal White House dinner given for UN secretary-general U Thant by Lyndon and Lady Bird Johnson on 6 August 1964. The menu has the presidential seal embossed in gold and gold beveled edges. This comes from the Sanford L. Fox collection who headed the social office at the White House Kennedy-Ford. You can find one at the National Museum of American History.

1995 Malta Coin from United Nations 50th Anniversary Commemorative Coin Collection

       Malta, after more than 150 years as a British Crown Colony, became an independent state within the Commomwealth in September 1964.  In December that smae year Malta became the 114th member of the United Nations and participates in the 50th Anniversary celebrations with the issue of a commemorative silver Proof coin with a lega tender value of five Maltese liri.  Both obverse and reserve designs are the work of Maltese engraver Noel Galea Bason and declare Malta's commitment to world peace.

       The obverse bears the Maltese Coat of Arms with the wreath of olive and palm branches while the reserve recalls Malta's admission to the UN in 1964 along with the inscription 'Fl-ghaqda l-paci' (Peace in Unity).  Appropriately the commemorative reverse pictures the then Prime Minister of Malta Dr Giorgio Borg Olivier together with the late U Thant, Secreatry General to the UN from 1961 until 1972.
